The quiet night near the Pascagoula River in Mississippi was suddenly shattered by screams. A car carrying three teenage girls had veered into the dark water, its headlights disappearing beneath the surface as the current quickly began pulling it under.
The girls were trapped inside the sinking vehicle, surrounded by darkness and rising water. Their cries for help echoed across the riverbank as the car slipped deeper into the current.
Nearby, a 16-year-old boy named Corion Evans heard the desperate shouts. Without hesitation, he ran toward the river. There was no life jacket, no emergency equipment, and no time to wait for help.
By the time the vehicle disappeared beneath the surface, Evans had already jumped into the water. Fighting the current and darkness, he swam toward the girls, determined to reach them before it was too late.
The water was chaotic, filled with debris and the lingering smell of gasoline from the vehicle. The girls struggled to stay afloat, disoriented and frightened as the river continued to pull at them.
